PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was the purest example of film study making a difference in the game. Steelers corner Beanie Bishop said he knew what was coming from Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers which helped lead to two interceptions Sunday in a 37-15 Steelers win.

The rookie said as they were going over looks from the Jets and even back to studying Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, they noticed when he sees the middle of the field open, he will make back shoulder passes.

Bishop said because of that studying he knew how to play the pass that would end up being his first of two picks and as Mike Tomlin said it without a doubt it changed momentum in the game.

In the ensuing drive the Steelers drove 54 yards scoring a touchdown and cutting the Jets lead to two right before halftime.

“I knew the guys in the slot were going to be hot and I play in the slot,” Bishop said. “I had to prepare right and be where I was supposed to be.”

“It’s crazy because of the play that he made, he actually made those plays in practice,” said Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen. “That was the biggest thing was that he made those plays because he made them in practice. I couldn’t be more proud of him. Everybody been so hard on him being a rookie and the position he’s in.”

He was picked on in the Dallas game, but turned it around to pick off one of the best quarterbacks of this generation.

“Beanie Bishop, man,” said Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. “That’s an awesome evening for him to get his first two interceptions versus a gold-jacket guy like Aaron Rodgers. We are just appreciative of the work that was done tonight to make the night what it was.”

An undrafted free agent, from early in camp the West Virginia All-American has gotten numerous chances and taken advantage of them. It helps that Cam Sutton was suspended the first eight games, but he still had to make the plays.

“He’s doing everything a rookie should,” said Steelers corner Joey Porter, Junior. “He’s coming into meetings. He’s listening. He’s doing his job. He balled out today. He got two against A-Rod, not a lot of people can say that.”

“The one thing I’ll say about him is he never shrinks,” Tomlin said, adding Bishop has grown in all areas. “The situations aren’t too big for him and he’s learned and he’s open to learning. He has good questions. I meet with him every Friday morning as we lean in on situational ball. He’s doing a lot of the little things well. He’s on a good trajectory.”

“As a rookie, sometimes you can get overwhelmed in this,” said captain Cam Heyward. “I thought he stepped up, made some big plays. Let’s see how he can build on it from here.”

That’s for film study Monday afternoon and throughout the rest of the season. But for Sunday night into Monday morning, the nickel corner no one wanted can celebrate a pair of interceptions against Aaron Rodgers.

“He’s a Hall of Fame quarterback, got a lot of respect for that guy,” Bishop said. “Just to be able to get not just one, but two off him was crazy.”

He does have one more request, he wants Rodgers to sign those game balls.

“Hopefully he’ll be a nice guy and get it signed.”
