There is a certain sect of people who believe cats are nothing more than the devil’s spawn.

This story will not help the felines’ case.

The Garland Fire Department has issued a warning after a house cat actually started a kitchen fire in the central Garland area last week.

According to WFAA, video shows the at jumping on a stove and accidentally activating a burner, which ignited some combustible material that was left on the stove.

Thankfully, the fire in the kitchen was quickly extinguished and there was no damage to the rest of the home or other surrounding properties.

The GFD has released a few reminders regarding preventable kitchen fire safety:

-Keep combustible items such as paper towels, dish towels, food packaging, and plastic containers away from stovetops and cooking surfaces.
-Always turn off cooking appliances when not in use. -Never leave cooking unattended.
-Maintain a clear, clutter-free area around all heat sources.
-Consider using stove knob covers or removing knobs when not in use to help prevent accidental activation, especially in homes with children or pets.
