There are some of us out there that will wake up tomorrow ready to tackle whatever New year’s resolution that may have been made.  A lot more folks will wake up with a hangover that might persist through the end of January.

If you are in the group ready to tackle the new year head-on, the Texas Parks and Wildlife department wants you to participate in a “First Day Hike.”

First Day Hike is a nationwide program that encourages hiking on New Year’s Day, and plenty of state parks near Dallas and throughout Texas are offering residents the chance to stretch their legs and begin the new year with a bit of fresh air and beautiful scenery.

The TPWD says on their website, "First day hikes vary from short, leisurely nature walks on forested trails; boardwalk strolls through wetlands or to the beach; or climbs into the mountains of the Chihuahuan Desert.

"Some first day hikes aren't hikes at all: We also lead bike rides, paddling tours, and maybe even horseback rides. Choose the event that's right for you."

According to CultureMap Dallas, parks throughout the state will be offering both guided, and self-guided hikes.

Around North Texas, you can participate in a First Day Hike at:

-Ray Roberts Lake State Park (Johnson Branch & Isle du Bois. Guided and unguided hikes.)
-Eisenhower State Park
-Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway (Guided hike)
-Fort Richardson State Park & Historic Site Palo
-Pinto Mountains State Park (Registration required)
-Lake Whitney State Park (Guided mindful walk)
-Bonham State Park (Guided hike)
-Lake Arrowhead State Park
-Purtis Creek State Park
-Possum Kingdom State Park
