You may not be aware, but downtown Garland is home to a couple of notable sites.

Did you know the largest cowboy hat in Texas is located right in the middle of downtown?

And a detective with the Garland police department has created a sort of “love letter” to his city, and it’s taken the form of a custom Lego creation.

Detective John Capers created a replica of downtown Garland using roughly 27,000 Lego pieces.  He told WFAA that Lego is more than a hobby, but also his “creative outlet and a way to unwind from the demands of the job.”

Garland mom Dee Carter said, “It’s better than using a map, coming here and looking at this.”

The replica is located inside Garland City Hall at 200 N. Fifth Street, Garland, TX 75040.
