Crews rescue person who fell on BART San Bruno tracks

A man who fell onto the San Bruno BART station tracks has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being rescued by emergency crews, according to the agency. Officials aren't yet sure what caused his fall, and BART police are investigating.

San Bruno Station closed for about an hour on Tuesday afternoon during what officials initially characterized as a "major medical emergency." When the station reopened just before 4 p.m., the agency tweeted that a person was "safely removed" from the trackway.

In an outgoing message left on BART's media relations line, Communications Officer Anna Duckworth said the person fell onto the tracks. Duckworth identified the person as a man in a follow-up email with KCBS Radio, adding that the cause of his fall was unknown.

BART officials didn't specify where the person was hospitalized. Duckworth said in the follow-up email the BART Police Department stood in its investigation.

Tuesday's incident occurred after two victims were pushed off train platforms in New York City earlier this month, prompting safety questions.

On Jan. 15, a 40-year-old former Fremont resident was killed after being pushed in front of a New York City subway train. Another person was pushed off a subway platform on Monday, sustaining minor injuries.
