ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Two firefighters were injured after the St. Louis Fire Department responded to a tugboat that caught fire in the Mississippi River Tuesday morning.
Authorities deployed three units of the Marine Unit Rescue Task Force to attack the fire on the Illinois side of the river near Mile Marker No. 176 and Arsenal Street around 8:30 a.m.
The fire began in the engine room and has extended to the second deck of the boat, according to the fire department. One firefighter was transported to the hospital "non urgently" and is in stable condition. Another firefighter who was injured was treated and released on scene.
Former St. Louis firefighter and current director of the St. Louis Regional Response System says "this job sounds like it's going to be some work."
STL has one of the largest Marine Unit Task Force of any non-costal city.
