Two people have been arrested for trying to rob one of the evacuated homes impacted by the landslide in Rolling Hills Estates.
LISTEN:
A call was made to Lomita Station reporting two people spotted running through the backyard of one of the homes.
Lieutenant Doug Kimura told KNX reporter Pete Demetriou that a containment area was set up, and half a dozen deputies went into the landslide area, which is still at risk of movement.
The officers were able to locate the pair in a dense area of brush, about 6 to 10 ft. thick, and after minimal prompting, got them to come out.
The man and woman were found carrying a bag containing items worth about $12,000 and were booked for burglary.
The Sheriff's Department is making it clear that the slide zone has a deputy posted at all times, and anyone who is not a resident can expect to be arrested if found there.
