A 48-year-old pedestrian struck and killed by a Metrolink train in the Valley Glen area has been identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office as Mario Gomez.

Paramedics sent to the 12700 block of Raymer Street, between Whitsett and Coldwater Canyon avenues, at 1:19 p.m. Monday pronounced Gomez dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Gomez, who was in a "non-pedestrian area," was hit by train No. 109, which was traveling westbound on the Ventura County Line, said Scott Johnson of Metrolink. No one was injured aboard the train, which contained 24 passengers.

The tracks were closed in the area until 4:30 p.m. while an investigation was conducted, Johnson said.

This was the second time in seven days there was a fatal accident involving a Metrolink train in the area. A Metrolink train struck a vehicle at Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Raymer Street at about 3:20 p.m. last Tuesday, just west of the location of Monday's fatality, killing a man inside the vehicle.

According to Metrolink, the train that struck the vehicle was heading from downtown Los Angeles to Moorpark on the Ventura County Line.
