While they may be slick to use in the kitchen, two million Cosori air fryers are being recalled as they may cause severe burns or even catch fire, melt, overheat, and smoke.
The recall was posted on Thursday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which shared that there have been 205 such reports of the air fryers causing issues related to heat, resulting in superficial burn injuries and damage to their user’s property.
Those who own one of the affected air fryers are being advised by the CPSC to stop using them immediately, as they have a wire connection that could overheat and catch fire, possibly burning those operating them.
Cosori, the kitchen brand that sells the affected machines, shared a statement on its website following the recall.
“After a thorough investigation, we determined that in extremely rare circumstances, the closed-end crimp connectors within the recalled air fryers — which are responsible for establishing electrical connections between certain wires — can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards,” Cosori said.
Roughly two million of the kitchen devices were sold in different sizes and models throughout the U.S., the recall shared. In Canada and Mexico, an additional 270,000 were sold.
Air fryers affected have the following model numbers:
CP158-AF, CP158-AF-R19, CP158-AF-RXW, CP158-AF-RXR, CAF-P581-BUSR, CAF-P581-AUSR, CAF-P581-RUSR, CP137-AF, CP137-AF-RXB, CP137-AF-RXR, CP137-AF-RXW, CS158-AF, CS158-AF-RXB, CS158-AF-R19, CAF-P581S-BUSR, CAF-P581S-RUSR, CAF-P581S-AUSR, CO137-AF, CO158-AF, CO158-AF-RXB, and CP258-AF.
They were sold from June 2018 through December 2022 on Amazon.com, Home Depot, Target, Best Buy, and other home goods websites. Prices for the affected models ranged from $70 to $130.
