The brother of a former NFL star cops a plea in the 2022 murder of a youth football coach.
Yaqub Talib has agreed to plead guilty to murder for fatally shooting a youth football coach at the Lancaster Community Park during an on-field quarrel. Video from TMZ Sports showed parents and coaches fuming with the refs and with each other when five gunshots suddenly rang out.
Police say Talib shot 43-year-old Michael Hickmon then fled the scene. He surrendered two days later to Dallas Police and was indicted for murder the following month.
As part of the plea deal, Talib will spend the next 37 years in prison. Formal sentencing and victim impact statements are scheduled for August 7th.
Talib is the brother of five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib, who stepped away from his role on Prime Video's Thursday Night Football following the deadly shooting.
Court records show it's not the first time that guns and Yaqub Talib have crossed paths. He has a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon from a May 2021 arrest. He was also busted for meth possession that same day.
