KYW Medical Report: COVID-19 still poses a risk for unvaccinated people

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you are fully vaccinated, relax. The CDC is looking closely at the data, and the most recent number of hospitalizations was reported around 1,400 cases in 115 million fully vaccinated people.

It is unlikely that fully vaccinated people will test positive for COVID-19, but if they do, symptoms would be similar to the common cold, even in high-risk groups.

Scientists are concerned, however, about those who have not yet been vaccinated, especially in high-risk groups. For them, the risk of severe illness is as great as it has ever been.

There needs to be a consistent effort to provide vaccines for people in hard-to-reach areas, as well as greater public education to work with those who are vaccine-hesitant.
