While vanilla is one of the most well-known flavor across the country, there are a ton of options to choose from when buying the sweet treat.
According to a new study from Instacart, ice cream lovers across the United States are devouring unique flavors such as rocky road, green tea, coffee, and birthday cake.
In time for National Ice Cream Day on July 18, Instacart found four flavors tied for the most popular, besides vanilla. Data from the survey shows that those flavors accounted for more than 26% of sales in the United States.
“Americans’ love for ice cream runs deep, and with thousands of different ice cream options available for purchase through Instacart, we thought it would be fascinating to dig into the data to uncover the most uniquely popular flavors in each state,” Laurentia Romaniuk, Instacart’s trends expert said. “It turns out that people across the country have a hankering for vanilla, peanut butter cups, and fudge since ‘Moose Tracks’ is the top unique flavor in 12 states.”
What are the most popular flavors in each state?
The survey reports that Americans prefer chocolate ice cream, as 24 states picked it as their favorite flavor. However, residents in Hawaii prefer mango flavor. In comparison, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are more endeared toward pistachio.
To find each state’s favorite flavor, Instacart compared the state's sales to the national average.
