HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- In a series of roster moves prior to Thursday's doubleheader header against the New York Yankees, the Astros activated Yordan Alvarez off the IL and placed Ryan Pressly on the paternity list.

Selected to his first All-Star Game, Alvarez was placed on the IL July 10 with right hand inflammation. He took batting practice at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday and was deemed healthy enough to return to action. He will not be in the Astros game one starting lineup but will be the designated hitter for game two.

Alvarez leads the Astros in batting average (.306) and home runs (28) and is second on the team with 60 RBI. The team optioned Jose Siri to Triple-A Sugar Land to make room on the roster.

Pressly was placed on the Paternity List after his wife Kat gave birth to the couple's second child on Wednesday. The Astros closer has retired 27 straight hitters since blowing a save at Yankee Stadium last month. He will be eligible to rejoin the team this weekend in Seattle.

The Astros activated Parker Mushinski off the IL to take Pressly's spot on the 26-man roster.
