(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans are cutting return specialist Andre Roberts just six games into a two-year contract the former All-Pro signed this offseason.
Roberts, according to the Houston Chronicle, is being let go after averaging just 4.1 yards per punt return, the lowest clip for anyone with eight returns or more. Roberts averaged 21.4 yards per kickoff on 18 returns.
Those numbers are far down from the 33-year-old's career average of 8.8 yards per punt return and 25.5 yards per kick return.
Roberts had been named to the Pro Bowl the past three seasons with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. He was named second-team All-Pro last season in Buffalo and first-team All-Pro with the Jets in 2018 as the league's kickoff return leader.
Roberts' success landed him a two-year, $5.5 million contract with Houston, where he was guaranteed $2.5 million.
Expect cornerback Desmond King II, who's been an All-Pro defensive back and punt returner, to assume return duties with Roberts gone.
