Once the expected sale approval of the Commanders becomes official, attention will finally turn back towards football, and the upcoming season.
The Josh Harris ownership group will have plenty of work to do, including putting together their own front office, who will put together their own coaching staff, which will put together its own roster, and while that will take time, the Junkies are still hopeful that the Commanders could once again be a force in the NFL in the not-too-distant future.
“The feeling I have now is hopefulness,” Cakes said. “Hopefulness that maybe we’re gonna have a season like we had with the Nats and the Capitals, like a magical season down the road.
“Maybe we’re gonna have an 11 or 12-win season down the road.”
Nobody expects such a season to happen this year, but in a few years, why not?
“I’m not saying hopeful this year,” Cakes said. “But let’s say over the next five years, there is hopefulness that they can be a contender.”
