Jackson: Should the Commanders have added another wide receiver?

The Washington Commanders’ top three wide receivers – Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel – are good. Well, McLaurin is great, Dotson has shown quite a deal of promise, and Samuel has potential to be big. But after that... what else is there?

Here are the other names that will be around when the team opens training camp and gets ready for Week 1 and the Arizona Cardinals: Dyami Brown, Dax Milne, Marcus Kemp, Kazmeir Allen, Kyric McGowan, Zion Bowens, Mitchell Tinsley, Brycen Tremayne and Jalen Sample. Is there enough talent there to produce and help either starting quarterback if it is Sam Howell (likely) making his second career start or veteran Jacoby Brissett?

Scott Jackson (in for Kevin Sheehan) after talking about Dotson's prediction of a breakout year coming and Samuel's production debated the topic of what the Commanders should do with the position with producer Denton Day.

Yesterday, Jackson that the Commanders' defensive line was the most trustworthy unit on the team and he received pushback from some fans who said it was the WRs. "I just don't see enough depth there really when you get past the top three," he said.

And Dotson, Samuel and Brown all have injury histories to worry about.

"To me, there is probably room for this team, there would've been room they didn't do it, to have gotten a veteran wide receiver after Cam Sims left," Jackson said. "People brought up DeAndre Hopkins, yeah, that's not gonna happen. Quite frankly the fourth receiver on your team needs to play a little special teams and that's not something DeAndre Hopkins is gonna do, plus the money is just crazy."

Day suggested Jarvis Landry, a five-time Pro Bowler (most recently in 2019), who at 30 years old is a free agent. And here is the list of other available players: Kenny Golladay, Julio Jones, byron pringle, N'Keal Harry, Quintez Cephus, TY Hilton, Sammy Watkins, and Rashard Higgins.

"It's not great," Jackson added on that list. "If one of the top three got hurt then I think that's when you're thinking about a Jarvis Landry or somebody of that deal."
