The Junkies remember their excitement when Dan Snyder became Commanders owner. Whoops.

Turning the clock back to 1999, The Sports Junkies looked back on when they learned the news that Dan Snyder was taking over as owner of the then Washington Redskins.

There was so much hope, and how foolish their younger selves were.

“He was like the youngest guy to be listed on one of the stock exchanges,” JP said. “This guy was a real, successful businessman, his investors made millions off of him. When he was announced as the owner, remember how excited we were? ‘We have this young genius!’

“It turned into a disaster. He had a toxic work environment…the team has won like two playoff games, the record is abysmal. He is universally loathed.”

Cakes remembers having the same sense of initial hope when Snyder took over the team.

“‘This guy is gonna turn the franchise around!’” Cakes remembered thinking. “’He’s gonna be an amazing owner!’”

Instead, it was 24 years of disaster, and the Junks are happy to see Snyder go, while understanding why he will likely be nowhere near the DC area anymore once the sale is complete.

“I don’t blame him for moving to Europe for the rest of his life,” Cakes said. “Why would you want to be here?”
