
Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - The driver of an electric scooter is at Erie County Medical Center after police say he drove into the path of a vehicle driving along Bailey Avenue at Maple Road on Tuesday.
According to Amherst police, an 80-year-old male from Niagara Falls was driving a 2022 white Subaru Legacy Southbound on Bailey Avenue approaching Maple Road at around 9:30 a.m. At the same time, a 40-year-old male from Niagara Falls was driving an electric scooter Westbound on Maple Road approaching Bailey Avenue.
The electric scooter entered the intersection in the path of the Subaru, causing a collision.
The driver of the Subarau was not injured, though police say the driver of the scooter sustained serious leg, abdominal and head injuries.
The scooter driver was transported to ECMC by Twin City Ambulance for treatment. The Eggertsville Hose Fire Department assisted with medical treatment and traffic control at the scene.
