jones & mego: Tom E. Curran calls in, talks WR trade market, Drake Maye toughness
The Patriots potential future franchise quarterback will be in Foxborough this Friday.
According to SI’s Albert Breer, New England will host former UNC signal caller Drake Maye on a 30-visit at Gillette Stadium ahead of the weekend.
Maye (6-foot-4, 223 pounds) threw a total of 62 touchdowns to just 16 interceptions over his final two seasons with the Tarheels while also adding 1,147 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns on the ground. His visit to Foxborough marks his third meeting with New England's brass to date, having spoken with the team at both the NFL Combine and prior to his Pro Day on March 28.
"He brings a lot of energy," Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said of Maye at the NFL owners meetings. "You can tell he has that leadership ability... the exciting part about a guy like Drake Maye: There is really no ceiling with a guy like that... He has a lot of room to grow. He’s a young guy. Honestly, he hasn’t played football nearly as much as these other guys. So that’s definitely something we’ve looked at, but he’s definitely going to develop."
Maye's visit to New England comes on the heels of an Adam Schefter "report" that signs are pointing to the Washington Commanders taking former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick -- a decision that would give the Patriots the opportunity to take Maye at No. 3.
The NFL Draft's silly season is officially in full swing.
