(670 The Score) Fittingly for the occasion, the White Sox and Yankees emerged from the cornfield behind the right-field wall in pregame introductions for the “Field of Dreams” matchup in Dyersville, Iowa on Thursday evening.
“Field of Dreams” movie star Kevin Costner was the first individual to take to the field from the cornfield. After the players followed, he gave a short speech, calling it “perfect” for the “first-place White Sox” to face the “mighty Yankees” in such a scenic setting. There was a hearty ovation from the crowd of about 8,000 when Costner proclaimed “first-place White Sox.”
The matchup marks the first time an MLB regular-season game has ever been played in Iowa.
