(WGR 550) - Buffalo Sabres winger Jack Quinn has been getting plenty of opportunities playing on Team Canada with Tyler Toffoli and Scott Laughton, but he hasn’t been able to score yet.
Listen live to WGR:
Quinn did win Monday’s game against Slovakia at the World Championship thanks to his shootout winner in the eighth round. Quinn shot first and missed, but once you get past the first five shooters, you are able to shoot again. On his second attempt, he made no mistake.
Quinn is also getting power play time, as is his Sabres teammate Peyton Krebs. Quinn got 19:21 of ice-time on Monday, while Krebs got 16 minutes.
Canada got a 4-on-3 power play in overtime, and Krebs was dangerous both shooting and passing, but couldn’t score. Both Sabres players had three shots on goal for the game.
Devon Levi was not in goal once again, as Sam Montembeault of the Montreal Canadiens was in net, stopping 23 of 24 shots faced. In two games, Montembeault has only allowed one goal on 47 shots.
Team USA got a scare from Germany, but Matt Coronato’s goal with just 5:10 left in regulation gave the Americans their first lead and a 3-2 win. Coronato was taken 13th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames, and just left Harvard University after his sophomore season to join the NHL squad.
Alex Tuch had some good chances for Team USA, but two point-blank chances went over the net. Tuch played 20:23 and had three shots on goal.
Many feel JJ Peterka has been Germany’s best player. In three games, he has one goal. Against the Americans, he was skating well and had some great chances, but he couldn’t get the puck past Casey DeSmith of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Peterka played 22:41 and had two shots on goal. Germany has lost all three of its games and is last in Group A.
The U.S. leads Group A with three wins, while Canada is leading Group B with three wins.
