Rasmus Dahlin named NHL's 'Third Star of the Week'

It is the second time this season Dahlin has been named one of the NHL's weekly "Three Stars"

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - For the second time this season, Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin has been named one of the NHL's "Three Stars of the Week".

It was announced by the NHL on Monday the 22-year-old has been named the "Third Star of the Week" for the week ending on Jan. 8 after putting up six points (2+4) in two games.

After picking up an assist in an overtime win on Tuesday night over the Washington Capitals, Dahlin put up his first-career five-point night on Saturday night with a pair of goals and three assists against the Minnesota Wild.

Through 36 games this season, Dahlin remains one of the top-scoring defensemen in the NHL with 44 points (12+32). He's on pace to score 27 goals from the blue line and 99 points.

Earlier this season, Dahlin was named the NHL's "First Star of the Week" for the week ending on Oct. 23. That week saw him break the NHL record for consecutive games starting the season with a goal for defensemen with five.

Dahlin is the second Sabres player this season to be named one of the NHL's "Three Stars of the Week", joining center Tage Thompson with two honors. Thompson was also named the NHL's "Third Star" for the month of December.
