DETROIT (WWJ) – Two people are hospitalized after a pair of motorcycle crashes in Detroit over the weekend.

A 50-year-old motorcyclist from Detroit suffered serious injuries in a crash Saturday night, while a 36-year-old Dearborn Heights man is in critical condition after a crash early Sunday morning, according to Michigan State Police.

Michigan State Police were called out to the Lodge Freeway near I-94 around 8:30 p.m. Saturday after getting reports of a motorcycle crash.

Authorities say the 50-year-old was riding a bike on the northbound Lodge when a car that had been parked on the right shoulder pulled out into traffic. The driver of the bike was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the car and they were thrown from the bike.

Officials say they did not get a description of the car involved in the crash but they are asking for tips from the public in finding the driver. Tips can be submitted by calling the MSP Metro South Post at 734-287-5000.

“If you are the driver, give us a call so we can get your story about what happened,” MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said on Twitter.

About five hours later troopers were called back out to the Lodge around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after getting several reports of another motorcycle crash near Wyoming Avenue.

When troopers showed up EMS personnel were tending to the 36-year-old Dearborn Heights man, who was found unresponsive at the scene.

He was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition.

While authorities have not released many details about the second crash, Shaw said “we know that excessive speed is causing a lot of the preventable crashes we are seeing in Metro Detroit.”

“If you operate a motorcycle at excessive speed and crash the outcome can be far worse as you are without protection. Please slow down!” he said in a tweet.
