COMMERCE TWP. (WWJ) -- A man reported missing by his family early this month been found dead on Lower Straits Lake in Commerce Township.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the victim has been identified as a 34-year-old Waterford Township man who disappeared on Monday, April 4.

Sheriff Mike Bouchard said the man's body was recovered from the lake after a 911 call came in Wednesday.

"A resident had actually seen a person in the water," Bouchard told WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett. "We obviously responded, determined who we believe it to be, and that there was no obvious sign of foul play."

It's not clear how the man ended up in the area, or what he was doing on the lake.

While nothing criminal is suspected at this time, Bouchard said an autopsy will be conducted by the Oakland County Medical Examiner.

"He was found in the water. We don't know that he drowned until we get, obviously, to determine a cause and manner of death," the sheriff added.

The man's name is being withheld at this time until authorities can notify his family.
