Canton police searching for two vehicles involved in fatal shooting along Haggerty Road

CANTON (WWJ) - Authorities in Canton confirmed a victim who was shot multiple times during a suspected traffic altercation Friday evening has died of his injuries and police are now searching for the suspects involved.

Police said they were first called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. on Friday after receiving reports of a shooting along Haggerty Road between Palmer and Michigan Avenue in Canton.

The victim, a 37-year-old Belleville man as reported by WXYZ, had been shot several times over what police say was a traffic incident and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police just informed WWJ that the victim has died.

Canton police said they believe the alleged shooter, an unknown male, was behind the wheel of a 2013-2017 gray Chevrolet Equinox; the vehicle was last seen driving northbound on Haggerty near Haggerty Circle.

A second vehicle that authorities suspect of also being involved in the shooting is a white, newer model Dodge Ram pickup with black trim. This vehicle was also traveling northbound on Haggerty.
