WIth very limited information, Livonia police announced they were able to track down a suspect who had broken into nine businesses and catch him red-handed with a pry bar and items from targeted locations.
The investigation began in recent weeks with Livonia and other cities saying they experienced a rash of business B&Es. Police revealed the suspect would make entry into the businesses by either prying open a door or by using a sledgehammer to break through the glass. Once inside the business, the suspect would steal money and checks by prying open the cash register or by breaking into their safe.
The nine Livonia businesses included Cantoro's Market, UPS store, I-Hop restaurant, Mary's Grill restaurant, and five other businesses in the Buckingham Plaza.
On October 7, 2020 at around 9:30 pm, Livonia investigators had confirmed that the suspect had just broken into five businesses in the Buckingham Plaza.
Livonia stopped the suspect's vehicle eastbound on I-96, and Norman Fuchs, 45 of Farmington Hills, was taken into custody. At the time of arrest, Fuchs was still in possession of a pry bar and multiple checks from one of the businesses that he had just broken into, police said.
Fuchs was arraigned in the 16th District Court of Livonia on nine counts of Breaking & Entering and bond was denied. Fuchs is currently on parole and was also charged with a parole violation. Fuchs is due back in court on October 22nd, 2020 for his probable cause conference.
