DETROIT (WWJ) -- Four people have been sent to the hospital after a crash involving a Detroit fire truck and SUV.

The Detroit Fire Department said that around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, as fire crews were heading to a house fire, they crashed with an SUV on Houston-Whittier near Dickerson on the city's east side.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell reports that the SUV sustained heavy front-end damage, while the firetruck veered off the road and ended up in the front yard of a home.

Campbell reports that two civilians and two firefighters were hurt in the crash.

The firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precaution, while the victims in the SUV were also hospitalized, though their conditions are currently unknown.

One witness to the crash told WWJ he saw one of the men cut out of the SUV.

"My mans had to get cut out. I think both of his legs (were) broken. His neck was kind of fractured, he was moaning real bad. He couldn't move," area resident Paul Miller said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
