The Saints appear to be continuing to bolster their interior defensive line, while a familiar name heads to injured reserve.

The Saints announced Thursday afternoon they had claimed former Giants defensive tackle RJ McIntosh off waivers on Thursday. The news was first reported by ESPN's Field Yates.

McIntosh, a 5th-round pick in 2015 out of Miami, was waived by New York this week.

Former Tulane wide receiver Jalen McCleskey is also headed to injured reserve, according to a report from Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football, with a hamstring injury. The second-year receiver has been absent from practice this week due to the injury.

The move adds depth at a position where the Saints will be without veteran David Onyemata for six games due to suspension. They're also looking to make up for the departures of Sheldon Rankins and Malcom Brown in free agency.

McIntosh marks the latest in a string of former Giants defenders that have joined the Saints, including defensive backs Eli Apple, Janoris Jenkins and Prince Amukara, the latter of whom signed with New Orleans earlier this offseason. McIntosh has logged 2 sacks and 18 total tackles over his first two seasons with New York, but didn't record a snap in 2020.
