Strief: Getting players back should be a mental boost for Saints

The Saints are preparing for their Wild Card round matchup with the Chicago Bears Sunday at 3:40 p.m. and WWL Radio's Voice of the Saints, Zach Strief thinks New Orleans is getting healthy at the right time.

"You always get questions in the off season: 'Is this a year? Do you think they can do it this year?' The answer that I give is always the same and that's tell me who's playing in January," Strief said.

"I can tell you what I think of the team now, in August, and you know it's not going to matter much if those guys that are playing in August aren't playing in January.

"And right now you're looking at the same team that is by and large playing in January and I think that's a big deal to get all of these guys back and healthy and rested.

The Saints could potentially have their top receiver Michael Thomas, Pro Bowl running back Alvin Kamara and a secondary that's at full strength with Marcus Williams and C.J. Gardner-Johnson back in the lineup.

Strief said that have so many key players return could be a big mental boost for New Orleans.

"And especially for a team like the Saints who have been through as difficult a postseason stretch as any team since the Buffalo Bills," he said.

"You've been crushed three years in a row. You know, there's been controversy at the end of each of those seasons. There's been all these things happening, to get this mental boost of, like, 'Hey, guess what everybody's back here we go...' I think that might be an even bigger benefit to the Saints right now."
