When does a 51-yard catch become a 52-yard touchdown catch? If you’re John Ross III, it happens on your first catch of the season for the New York Giants.
Ross III, who was activated for Sunday’s game with the Saints after missing the first three weeks on IR, made his first grab as a Giant on this play that looks like a 52-yard touchdown pass:

The official ruling? Ross III made a 51-yard catch, fumbled it, and recovered in the end zone – but because he was the one who fumbled and then recovered, it counts as a TD and goes into the stats as a 52-yard catch for him and a 52-yard pass for Daniel Jones.
That’s one way to grab an extra yard, and one way to make your first catch with a new team count.

Ross III, who was selected No. 9 overall by the Bengals in 2017, signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Giants this past offseason to provide depth at wide receiver. Injuries decimated his four years in Cincy – he played in just 27 of 64 games and had 51 catches for 733 yards and 10 TD – but he was activated this week to make up for the losses of Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard, who were out injured for Sunday’s game.
