New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell delivered the annual state of the city speech, striking a personal tone early on.

"While I am in no way, in no way perfect, I do my job and I deliver results on behalf of the residents and for the city of New Orleans every day."

The mayor also talked about the city's efforts to improve its drainage system and live with climate change, mentioning work underway to build a new power substation dedicated to the Sewerage and Water Board's drainage pumps.

She also celebrated the recent groundbreaking on Mirabeau Water Garden project, a stormwater retention system in the Fillmore neighborhood between Bayou St. John and the London Ave. Canal.

Cantrell also praised new chief of police Ann Kirkpatrick for bringing good ideas to the table for fighting crime.

"She's been on the job 60 days, she's hit the ground running, and you know what? I am more confident than I've ever been," said Cantrell.

The mayor said the city is headed in the right direction as she heads into the final half of her second term.

"If nothing else, I want you all to know that the future of the city of New Orleans is bright," said Cantrell. "And if we continue to invest in one another, if we continue to lift up the good in one another, if we push away any barriers that those may want to throw in our way, we have to keep going."
