Former President Donald Trump will visit New Orleans today for a campaign fundraiser. JMC Analytics and Polling’s John Couvillon said Trump certainly doesn’t need to stop in Louisiana for campaigning.

“Money is money regardless of whether it’s in a swing state or a non-swing state like ours, so that, I figure, is probably what’s factoring into his having a fundraiser here in New Orleans.”

The minimum donation to attend the event is $3,000.

The fundraiser is being hosted by two of Louisiana’s biggest Republican donors and comes three days before the first presidential campaign debate of the year. Couvillon said he expects Trump to use the debate to prove his candidacy and attack President Joe Biden.

“The key would be to focus on Biden’s weaknesses with regards to inflation and the border just two use two easy examples.”

On the other hand, Biden’s approval rate has yet to rise above 40% even with Trump’s felony fraud convictions last month. Couvillon said this may make the debates an uphill battle for the current president.

“The debate stage, to me, will be a perfect place for him to demonstrate his ability to fulfill the duties of the office.”

You can hear the debate Thursday night on WWL AM&FM and WWL.com.
