Louisiana's attorney general has some thoughts on the upcoming elections in New Orleans.

"You've got an opportunity to elect a new mayor in New Orleans and get some change in these relationships where the rest of us can stop having to spend our time telling people to go out and comply with the law that's clear," Attorney General Liz Murrill told WWL's Newell Normand.

Murrill was speaking in reference to the letter she sent to city officials about the collection of speeding fines issued by the city's school zone cameras.

"I think it would be a lot easier if people would just do their duty and comply with the law," she said. "I don't think any of us really want to have to be spending our time doing this."

Murrill said there should not be any confusion about a 2024 law that says municipalities may not collect fines until reaching agreements with their local schools on splitting that money with them.
