Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, one of the most anticipated gubernatorial candidates in the up coming election, abruptly ended all speculation by saying he's not going to run for state's top job.
Just days before, when Senator John Kennedy said he was not going run for Governor, Nungesser jumped forward to say he was likely going to run.
Nungesser even doubled down by firing a shot over to bow of Attorney General Jeff Landry by saying he wasn't a good person.
But as word got out that State Treasurer John Schroder was going to throw his hat in ring, Nungesser upstaged Schroder by saying he wasn't running.
Nungesser was seen as a moderate in the race, compared to Landry who is clearly more right of center.
The state Republican Party, and Congressmen Clay Higgins and Mike Johnson have endorsed Landry.
Nungesser's decision to opt out comes as he says he's got unfinished business to take care of Lt. Governor.
He cites the pandemic and hurricanes with devastating tourism and visitation to the state.
Nungesser wants to see Louisiana once again at the top of its game when it comes to tourism.
The worst pandemic in our lifetime and a series of devastating storms leaves me with unfinished business to bring tourism back to its peak performance," Nungesser says in a statement.
Nungesser was elected Lt. Governor in 2015 after serving as President of Plaquemines Parish
