The man recently arrested for allegedly carjacking a woman as she pumped gas at Costco and then ran her over with the car as he made his getaway, now faces a 2nd-degree murder charge in the investigation of a 12-year-old boy found shot to death on Michoud Boulevard.

Tyrese Harris, 18, was arrested by NOPD officers and U.S. Marshals for the Feb. 1 carjacking incident.

Harris is accused of stealing Kelleye Rhein’s car as she pumped gas at the Costco on S. Carrollton Ave. off of I-10. Rhein was dragged as the suspect drove off in her car. She was sent to the ICU with head and neck injuries.

Today, authorities report that Harris is also booked for the murder of Derrick Cash, 12. They say Harris confessed to killing Cash.

In early January, Cash was found by nearby workers in the 14000 block of Michoud Boulevard. He was shot multiple times and died from his injuries.

Investigators have not yet said how the investigation connected Harris to the murder of Cash. Harris is booked with six additional charges which include, attempted armed robbery, aggravated criminal damage, and illegally carrying a firearm.
