More than 40% of Louisiana fully vaccinated for COVID

More than 40 percent of Louisianans have now completed their COVID-19 shots. With 1,873,834 completed vaccination series, it represents an increase of 67,790 people since last Monday on their way to maximum immunity from the pandemic virus.

2.247,592 Louisiana residents have had at least their first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. That is 48.25 percent of the state's population, and an increase of 70,625 since last week.

New Orleans continues to lead the way in vaccinations, with 55.1 percent of the city having received all the necessary shots. Jefferson Parish's vaccination rate is just below 52 percent.

The New Orleans southshore region (LDH Region 1) overall has achieved 52.33 percent vaccination. North of the lake, LDH Region 9 reports 38.23 percent having received all of their shots.

Here are the vaccination rates for each parish in the metro area, according to today's report from LDH (The number shows the percentage of residents who have received all their shots, based on 2018 Census estimates):

Orleans: 55.1%
Jefferson: 51.99%
St. Tammany: 45.62%
St. John the Baptist: 45.48%
St. Charles: 45.37%
Plaquemines: 42.79%
St. Bernard: 36.85%
Tangipahoa: 34.34%
Washington: 32.7$%
