CARTERET, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Rescue crews were called to two separate fatal pond rescues in New Jersey on Wednesday.
Around 7 p.m., two teens fell into an icy pond in Carteret who were playing despite a sign that says "Danger...Stay off the ice."
One teen was able to rescue himself, officials said.
The second teen was eventually pulled out of the pond and taken to Newark University Hospital where he died.
He was later identified as 15-year-old David Tillburg.
The Carteret Fire Department, said in a statement, that emergency personnel made "several unsuccessful attempts" to rescue the second teen from the pond located at Carteret Avenue and Cypress Street.
A Go FundMe page was created for Tillburg.
"Last night we lost my nephew David, in a tragic accident. He fell through the ice in a lake at the park. I can't begin to tell you how distraught we all are," the page said.
The page also warned other kids against going onto ice. "Please share and please talk to your kids about going onto ice. He was the 2nd young boy to pass away last night. Thank you all for your support."
In East Brunswick, crews responded to a call of teenagers that had fallen through an icy pond where a teenage boy died.
At approximately 5 p.m., officials say three teens fell in the pond near Civic Center Drive.Two teens, both 13-year-old were able to get themselves out, but one of the teens became trapped under the ice.
Paramedics formed a human chain to try to save him.
Rescue crews were eventually able to pull the boy out and was given CPR.
He was then rushed to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.Officials have not released the boy's identity.
"This is absolute sad tragic situation for everyone involved. for the victim, the officers that responded," said East Brunswick Police Chief Frank LoSacco. "They sacrificed themselves willingly and ran right in in full equipment and did they best they could given the circumstances."Six officers and two firefighters were treated for hypothermia in this incident.
