NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday announced that 30 of the largest employers in New York City would form the New York Jobs CEO Council, which aims to help low-income New Yorkers by hiring 100,000 New Yorkers by 2030.
This initiative will also partner with CUNY and the DOE to hire 25,000 CUNY students and provide students pathways to careers in growth industries.
"This is something that would build up over time," de Blasio explained. Adding that its a "wonderful pledge" because it focuses on coming back.
"New York, we have everything here, and we have the ability to come back strong and come back stronger," de Blasio said.
The mayor also announced a "first ever" tenant protection portal for residents who may be in danger of eviction.
Residents may use the free service by visiting https://www.nyc.gov/TenantResourcePortal or calling 311.
"If you need help, this is the place to get that help," the mayor said.
The mayor also called out the federal government saying "we would be in better shape if the federal government would include rental assistance in the stimulus." He also said that the state "needs to do the right thing and pass a bill that would allow tenants to do a payment plan."
De Blasio also announced the city is bringing back its Commercial Lease Assistant Program. He said $1.5 million funding restored to help small businesses by offering them free legal support.
So far, 900 cases have been resolved to date, according to the mayor.
