NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez returned to her pre-election professional Friday, as she jumped back behind the bar at an event to fight for a raise in the minimum wage.
The one-time bartender slung drinks and food orders at the Queensboro Restaurant in her district.
"It is so real, the amount of exploitation and harassment and labor violations you'll endure for the structure of tipped work," sbe told the crowd, drawing upon her experience as a bartender, "All labor has dignity and the way we give labor dignity is by paying people the value and respect that they are worth at minimum."
Freshman representative Ocasio-Cortez worked at Flats Fix, a Mexican restaurant in Union Square, before bieng elected to Congress.
She was at the event in support of the One Fair Wage Act, which would raise the minimum wage for tipped workers.
