NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An eight-year-old child fell down a trash compactor in an East Harlem building Tuesday night, according to officials.
The incident occurred at 7:40 p.m. at 215 102nd Street.
After reporting to a 911 call, police say they found an 8-year-old boy conscious and alert in the trash compactor in the basement of the building.
The compactor was not on at the time.
He was removed from the compactor and moved to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was treated for minor cuts and bruising.
Officials say the child did not live in the building and was visiting family.
He was playing with other children on the first floor when he went into the compactor feet first and fell approximately six to 10 feet.
