The child. Djeneba Magassa, who lived on East 215th Street in the Bronx, was taken to Montefiore Hospital in a private vehicle where she was pronounced dead, police say.
After striking the girl, the male driver, Kier Boneparte, 22, was taken into police custody and transported to Jacobi Medical Center for a sobriety test.
Afterwards, he was arrested and charged with reckless driving, motor vehicle failed to yield to pedestrian causing injury, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Police said the man did not have a driver's license. He also had several e-cigarettes in his possession.
It took place around 4 p.m. in the Olinville neighborhood near East 215th Street and White Plains Road.
Police say the Boneparte was driving north on White Plains Road in a 2002 BMW SUV. When he attempted to turn right on East 215th Street, he lost control of the vehicle, hit a parked car, and then careened onto the sidwalk where he pinned the stroller holding the girl against a wall.
