NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A senior assistant district attorney in the Brooklyn District Attorney's office was fatally struck by a bus while riding her bicycle in Williamsburg on Monday, the DA's office said.
Sarah Pitts, 35, was struck by a bus in Williamburg early Monday morning, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement posted on Twitter. Pitts had been working with the office since 2018, he said.
"(Sarah) was a brilliant and compassionate lawyer dedicated to seeking justice," Gonzalez wrote. "We are overwhelmed by this sudden loss."
"She was a kind and generous co-worker who will be greatly missed," he added. "Our sincere condolences go out to her family and friends."
Police said Pitts was riding her bicycle east on Wythe Street, at Williamsburg Street, around 12:35 a.m. on Monday when a charter bus traveling north on Williamsburg Street hit her.
She was taken to Bellevue Hospital with severe head trauma, where she was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.
The bus driver remained at the scene and hadn't been charged as of Monday evening, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
