The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a national advisory Thursday asking doctors to report cases of a rare inflammatory syndrome that's targeting children and seemingly linked to coronavirus.
At least three children have died from Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C). There have been at least 200 cases in 19 states and the District of Columbia of the Kawasaki disease-like syndrome.
In New York, 87 percent of those with MIS-C either had COVID-19 or its antibodies.
The advisory asks doctors to report symptoms of MISC-C to the CDC so the agency can better understand the condition.
"CDC recommends healthcare providers report any patient who meets the case definition to local, state, and territorial health departments to enhance knowledge of risk factors, pathogenesis, clinical course, and treatment of this syndrome," reads the advisory.
