Cold, windy Saturday to make way for warmer, partly cloudy Mother's Day

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A cold and windy Saturday is expected to make way for a warmer, partly cloudy Mother's Day in the tristate.

The Northeast is expected to experience a cold blast this weekend due to the polar vortex. As a result, Friday night will be windy and cold, with a low of 36 degrees. Spotty showers around the area could be mixed with some wet snowflakes, with the best chance for a bit of snow in some New Jersey and Hudson Valley suburbs.

The wind and chill will carry into Saturday, and while a few showers are possible, the day will be partly sunny. The showers could mix with wet snowflakes north and west of the city.

Wind gusts could reach 40 to 50 mph, and the temperature could reach 49 degrees, but will feel more like it's in the low 40s or 30s.

Mother's Day will be breezy, partly cloudy and much warmer, with a high of 62 degrees.

Scattered showers and cooler weather are likely to return on Monday.
