NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Bronx Council Member Ritchie Torres confirmed on Tuesday that he has tested positive for coronavirus and told 1010 WINS he has been under quarantine in his apartment since finding out.
Torres told 1010 WINS he is feelng fine and said he supports a shelter in place for NYC if one is put into place.
"I do the stakes are high. We have a stark choice: Either do everything we can to slow the spread of the disease or else the sheer number of coronavirus cases will crush the healthcare system. We have to practice aggressive social distancing."
He also said he'll be under quarantine for the next few weeks to avoid spreading the virus to others - like his mother - who suffers from chronic health conditions.
"Last night, I found out that I had tested positive for #COVID19. Over the weekend, I learned that a senior staff member had tested positive after experiencing symptoms for several days," Torres tweeted. "All members of my staff have quarantined themselves & are now closely monitoring their health."
Torres added that he will be under quarantine in his Bronx apartment for the next few weeks to avoid spreading the virus to others and will be working from home and resting as much as possible.
