As of Tuesday evening, Nassau County had seen 1,001 novel coronavirus-related deaths, while Suffolk County had seen 608 as of Tuesday afternoon, bringing the combined death toll on Long Island to 1,609.

A total of 25,250 people in Nassau County have tested positive for COVID-19, while 22,691 in Suffolk County have tested positive, according to county data.

"Just a month ago, Nassau County had zero deaths from COVID-19," Nassau County Executive Laura Curran tweeted Tuesday. "It's now taken more than 1,000 residents from us."

"It is in the memory of those we've lost that we commit to win this battle and come back stronger and more united than ever," she added.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, meanwhile, tweeted that he was "inspired to see local companies step up to the plate to help our frontline workers."

"Suffolk County manufacturers can now receive a sales-tax exemption of up to $100,000 on the purchase of equipment for making PPE and medicine," he wrote.
