NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A New York City Department of Education worker is facing serious charges after a sexual abuse complaint was filed by the grandmother of a special needs girl in Brooklyn.
Substitute paraprofessional Kevin Lemon was arrested Friday and charged with repeatedly abusing a 9-year-old girl at a Bedford Stuyvesant school last school year.
Police say the victim wasn't a student of Lemon's. The 28-year-old would allegedly see the girl at school and take her down to the basement, where he'd sexually abuse her, the Daily News reported.
According to police, the girl told her grandmother this month because she feared he would attack her again this school year.
Lemon faces a number of charges, including criminal sex act, sex abuse, sexual misconduct, forcible touching and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 years old.
In a statement to 1010 WINS, a DOE spokeswoman said: "These are deeply disturbing allegations and we immediately suspended this substitute paraprofessional without pay. He will remain suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation."
