E-bike rider dies after crashing into pedestrian on Bronx bike path: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 25-year-old e-bike rider died after he crashed into a pedestrian on a bike path in the Bronx early Saturday morning, the NYPD said. 

The 25-year-old man was riding an electric bike north on the Willis Avenue Bridge bike path, near East 135th Street in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday when he hit a 46-year-old pedestrian, police said. 

The man, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bike, the NYPD said. He was taken to a nearby hospital with head trauma and pronounced dead soon after, police said. Police didn’t immediately release the man’s name. 

The 46-year-old pedestrian was taken to the same hospital with a shoulder injury. He was listed in stable condition, the NYPD said. An investigation is ongoing.
