Experts predict NYC holiday travelers will experience major congestion

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The worst day to travel to and from New York is the day after Christmas. The peak congestion for Dec. 26, is expected to be the time period between 4:15 p.m. and  6:15 p.m., according to experts.Airlines for America estimates that between Dec. 26 and 27, there will approximately 2.9 million people flying.

That number is greater than the average 2.4 million people who travel on U.S. airlinesduring am average travel day.According to the American Automobile Association, Thursday will be the worst time to hit the road.

The AAA estimates that for major U.S. cities, these trips will take twice as long as it would on a nromal travel day.The highest number for holiday travelers is prjoected to happen during Saturday, Dec. 21 through Wednesday, Jan 1 with approximatley 104 million travelers expected.
