NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A reported possible fire on an aircraft forced it to reroute to Newark Liberty International Airport for an emergency landing at 8:30 a.m., Saturday.

The airport shut down all of its runways while airport firefighters responded.

Passengers evacuated on the runway via emergency chutes.

The flight, which departed from Montreal, Canada was headed to Fort Lauderdale, Florida according to a statement released by the FAA.

Newark Airport tweeted that they have resumed flights and reports two minor injuries.

"Flight activity has resumed at #EWR after the pilot of an Air Transat flight requested an emergency landing due to a report of fire in the cargo hold of the plane. Plane landed safely. 2 minor injuries unrelated to any smoke condition. Confirm with your carrier for flight status." said Newark Airport via Twitter.
